Rise above all to stay grounded.

Sales jobs are really challenging. Employees in other departments think you're always roaming and having fun all the time but fail to realize that it is people like you who work to give them their salaries. Well I want to start off with this statement filled with audacity because it is going to have a connection to what I'm going to write further.

I had a Kochi bound flight a couple of days back and on a rainy morning was struggling to get a cab to reach the airport on time - the initial thoughts of frustrations kick in very early in the morning, just as I reach the airport just in time to only notice that my flight gets delayed. The flight was delayed by about one and half hours which only meant that I lost a good night's sleep as well as being on time for the scheduled meeting with no assurance on the meeting happening on the time I go there; that's how funny a day can be as things not in your control, deciding how your day will be.

Multiple thoughts hit your head, the moment you board the flight but off all things that can irritate you, is the Uncle who sits next to you and shouts at the poor air hostess that he has a corporate booking and he's in economy class and not in business class.

Well, what will the poor air hostess do because his company admin has not
booked a business class?

I was wondering, getting tempted to tell him that I also had a corporate booking but I choose to stay quiet and wait for the meal booked, while the air hostess walked back after hearing to his ranting, she still had to put that smile on her face - because it was her job to be pleasant.

This made me question myself, who is big in life? who is having the control on the words/thoughts to be thrown on others, and who always wins?

This is the moment you want to really to look out of the window.

The glorious greetings from the sun to the mountains.

The sun is shining; the air is crisp and clear; brilliant green leaves stand out in sharp contrast against a sky of deep ultramarine. The world is full of birdsong which I'm somehow unable to hear from inside the flight, and the scurrying sounds of small forest creatures as they scamper through the underbrush which I was unable to spot from inside the flight.

For nature lovers, this route must be a  true paradise filled with lush green forests, cool mountain streams, and quiet meadows where butterflies flit above the wildflowers. You'll find whitetail deer napping in the dappled sunlight (just letting your imagination run wild)  and trout splashing about in shallow pools. Thousands of species of plants and animals call this region home, from the tiniest of finches to the elusive black bear to anacondas as well - you never really know, you'll also discover quiet trails where colorful blooms scent the air.

While all these imaginations are really wonderful, you tend to get back to the question of who is big in life.

While we are on the ground, the stars look small and while we are up the tall buildings and mountains look like ants, and just when you begin to give a smirk that you're the biggest of the lot because where ever you are the other side looks small.

This is when you observe something else, like a small cat moving swiftly over spilled milk, there is a dark image falling on the cloud which moves as fast as the flight.

The Sun on top of the flight, shows the reflection of the flight on the clouds (remember Physics classes?) A diminished image on the cloud - for the first time you begin to realize that you fit in to that diminished image among many others travelling - you tend to realize that even you are not big.

Just when these thoughts run aloud in the mind, "sir fasten your seat belt we are about to land" says the air hostess to re assure you that no one's the boss in this system called World.

Cliched though - Just like how a flight which takes off, needs to necessarily land - your thoughts on who is big can give you the initial feel of who is big, but for your own safety - it has to come back to the ground of realization that in this system - no one's bigger than the other and everyone deserves their very own respect.

Sometimes you have to rise above all, to realize you are not as big as you think you are. So spiraling back  to the beginning, I have to honestly end this write up saying that because of other departments functioning well within any organization, the sales team gets the respect wherever they go :)
