Will Power- A Necessary Evil

Many people believe they could improve their lives if only they had more of that mysterious thing called willpower. With more self-control we would all eat right, exercise regularly, avoid drugs and alcohol, save for retirement, stop procrastinating, and achieve all sorts of noble goals. Four necessary components for achieving objectives: First, you need to identify your current state of existence, and while there is a better higher state which can be achieved and there is a zone which needs to be leapt across. Secondly, establish the motivation for change and make it a clearer goal. Third, you need to monitor your behavior toward that goal. The fourth component is willpower. Whether your goal is to lose weight, kick a smoking habit, study more, or spend less time on Facebook, willpower is a critical step to achieving that outcome.

In this process, I would want to question, if will power is all that which is needed to drive your life forward? Many might say yes; even I will not deny it. Definitely it is the wheel on which our mind runs us forward. Let me put front a small analogy , while a water flows down a waterfall, even if there is a huge rock on its path the water doesn’t stop its flow, rather with time the rock gets shaped. Why? The gravitational force keeps pulling it down, and this is due to the cosmic will power of the nature. Earth’s rotation, the force that the Sun has on the other planets, everything that happens around us which is in nature is because of the cosmic will and humans trying to build their will power can never expect a better source for getting inspired.

New ideas and desired better state of existence is all through intrinsic thoughts or from the socio-cultural reference group environments, and here is the challenge for the will power.

Will power is like a muscle, the more you condition it, the more refined it is!

Will power is like electricity, it can neither be created nor destroyed, and it is only transferred from your mind to actions!

Empowering your thoughts and giving them the wings to experience and bring out a change is essential but, at the end of the day is will power is all that’s necessary? In my opinion, will power is a necessary evil; our actions must be a reflection of our heart’s love and devotion and not merely the will power. The thin line of difference between I have to do it, and I want to do it, is what drives us through.  It is as simple as the difference between inspiration and motivation. While we say I did it because of so and so reason, is about motivation and when we say I did it in spite of so and so reason, is about inspiration. In both these cases, the chauffeur for the mind is the willpower to either be inspired or motivated. Ultimately will power in the mind kicks us up and pushes us forward, but without the devotion and love in the heart towards the focused job we might never be able to be at ‘the best desired state’.

Going forward, never focus on only your will power when you want to change things for a better state, it makes you tired at the end of the day. It is needed, no denying it, but it is not all that is needed. It is a necessary evil, so ensure you are devoted in your efforts and let your actions be a reflection of it. J

  1. Great thoughts are driven by inner passion and you have more of it, keep writing, and keep inspiring. When you share that voice with the world, you may be surprised by the power of your written word and who it will reach. God Bless!
