Elitism - A way forward .
We are discussing about a socialist economy , where public
ownerships are on the rise and production is carried out directly for use ,
Elitism is closely related to social class and what sociologists call social
stratification. Members of the upper classes are sometimes known as the social
elite. The term elitism is also sometimes used to denote situations in which a
group of people claiming to possess high abilities or simply an in-group or
cadre grant themselves extra privileges at the expense of others. This form of
elitism may be described as discrimination.
While Elitism garners a Meaning which has a Potential To
become an axiom , alternatively on the flip side it also means Power
concentration with limited number of people .
Even Though I believe the categorization is a must , It must be based on
the Wisdom which would render anyone fit to be at the top rather than with just
the Wealth which makes them intrinsically part of the elite cream section of
the society .
There is another truth that usually goes unspoken. Everybody
is elitist when it comes to subjects they care about, quick to applaud what
they think good and to disparage what doesn't, in their opinion, measure up.
Every Cricket fan is an elitist. He doesn't want just anyone in his team; he
wants the best available. For the next few months Cricket supporters will be
arguing about the composition of the Indian squad to tour Australia this For
the WC .The squad will be selected from the elite of the game. Nobody – surely?
– would have it otherwise, The fact is
that there is nothing more elitist than sport. Many may be called, but few are chosen.
Yet, for plenty of people, when it comes to literature or some other art form,
“elitist” suddenly becomes a dirty word. People who argue fiercely about the
merits of different Cricketers, and accept that one is better than another and
that only the best should be picked to play for their national team, may bridle
at the suggestion that one novel is better than another. They may object even
more loudly to the idea that a novelist or professional reviewer may be a
better judge of fiction than the person who just enjoys what they call a good
read; a better judge because they have thought longer, and more critically,
about the question. Your average Cricket
fan may love the game and have passionate opinions about it, and yet not be a
discerning judge of a player. Likewise someone may love reading but not be a
discerning critic of a novel. Isn't Vile to accept this fact ?
Elitism must be favored hands down with just few tweaks ,
the cream of society must not be based on the Economy but on the Strength of
their wisdom , and their willingness to use their Ability to the best interest
of the Society , Gone are those days when the Elite society looks to spend for
the poor , We are in a period where the concept of "Survival of the
fittest " is the most prevalent and accepted Adage .
Lastly, it's also a time for self introspection. We might
pride ourselves on being the world's biggest democracy, but when India is #1
for Slavery in the world, and has very poor safety conditions for women, we
aren't very far back.
A Different take :).. Way forward of course!!
