Changing Display pictures vs Buying Patterns vs Spirituality

I have often heard, experienced that every day is a learning, and we wake up to something new. Well, the trending #PrayForParis and tricolor dp in facebook has caught my attention. Yes, it is often awesome to show the world that you are morally supporting, but how is that going to change things? You continue sitting in the comforts of your room basking under your roof and make things happen at just a click of your mouse or the touch of your fingers.

What started off for Gay marriages, continued for digital India and now for this, people started doing it initially as they thought it was ‘cool’, and a few were shocked when they got to know the actual meaning, but now it has become a fashion- more or less like a trend, on the lines of ice bucket challenge, no shave movember and many others, at least I’m happy with the fact facebook has gone a step higher to mention the cause before making you change it, because people are ‘too busy’ to even find it out before changing it.

Does it make a difference?

In the recent past there was a trending news of #SaveThamirabarani, and now #PrayForParis. It actually doesn’t, yes now a few reading this might say," I’m expressing my solidarity in venting out my support and moral prayers." Very well, do something which will actually make a difference. If you really want to save Thamirabarani, don’t buy any Pepsi products- the same old mantra of boycott, instead of doing it, we shout. Understand no one’s hearing.

But, thinking little deeper into this, I only see this as people doing this, because it is easy. Raising a voice when no one’s listening and also telling the world you supported it. So easy, isn’t? If at all you want to show the moral support, pray genuinely. Making things happen at just a click away will definitely not change anything. If you’ve anyone in Paris, talk to them and comfort them with your words.

What is more frightening is this news-BE VERY SHOCKED

What's exhibited here is similar to the way a few buy products in the market, without knowing the purpose of it- you may either call it reference group influence or the so called cult status. This is the same reason why there is a rush for ‘pre-orders’ on cult products or for a product from the big brand house, or a big movie from a so called big star. The early adopters and early majority are those who cause these rush. Without knowing the content or what is in it, they let the  queue grow big, which the marketers cash on and set their cash bells ringing- Cause these category people manage the negative rumors from spreading- why? Cause, they have used it already without their knowledge and they wouldn’t want to be snubbed for their stupidity. So, very carefully they asses the pros and bring it all out.

Just like the marketers, Facebook is closely watching over its prisoners. There are a few prospective adopters, and a few persistent non-adopters and a new trending tri or a multi color strip is waiting to paint your profile, sometime in the future for them. Look out for it, and that time, don’t fall for it.

Come on, ultimately at the end of the day ensure your actions speak for you but more importantly ensure your actions are worth it.

Importantly and finally,  if you are going to say you are an atheist or a believer, either way accepting the fact that God is no where or God is now here respectively, cannot go for a toss. It is only one among those two. If this can be clearly understood, why would you want to change your dp to show the world you have a very compassionate heart? or does it mean, those who haven't changed it aren't compassionate enough? Cause I saw a status message which read "I changed it cause I pray and care, if you cannot change and if you cannot pray, just go away". Come on, we can show our love and prayers without changing our pics as well.
