The Power of Persistence.
A friend of mine introduced me to a very good word in
English when we were walking under an umbrella on a rainy afternoon, she used
the word ubiquitous and I was startled. I could not wait a second before I
asked her what it meant, and she said it’s,” something found everywhere”. The
reason why I started with that word here is, talking about persistence, it is
something which has to be found everywhere.
If old is gold in your terms, then the following oldest
quote must still be the purest quote about not giving up. “There is nothing called as failure, it’s just a way you’ve found out of
how things will not work”. So alienating the process from the procedures
which will not work will leave you only with how it will work and for that
giving up isn’t an option.
To understand the deeper questions about your life just
think of you as a kid and ask what it would mean to you when you were a kid.
For example, let’s talk about persistence. Today you’ll say that you’re hard
pressed for time but you are actually finding ways to feed your laziness with
lame excuses, but as a kid? You will never give up until you got that chocolate
or your favorite cartoon, never have you slept unless your dad sings a soothing
lullaby. Probably, few of our elders mistook our persistence as stubbornness and
declared us an inflexible person and let us to change our way so they could be
comfortable.
There is a true story of a guy who wants to be good at more
than one field, and it was always there deep inside him to get to fame. There
was a burning desire for fame and that was all he was focusing on and what
happened later was he let several voices to start talking inside his head with
regard to how he has to be famous in each of his chosen field. What was he
focusing more was the consequence rather than the process. But the burning
desire never let him sleep, he was also falling short every time as he could
not put the necessary efforts to get to where he wanted. Now what was good here
about him was the persistence he had on his goal though it needed a little
channeling of thoughts in the right direction, he never gave up even though he
kept failing each time and even after bagging a hell lot of mockery from people
around him. If you are in the bracket, remove yourself off it and keep things
simple and have a self-introspection to channelize your persistence in the
right direction, because that’s the line which separates the successful ones
from those who give up. You have to clearly define and know your destination
and work on the route to reach it and be persistent. When you follow greatness
you will have to leave out certain people behind, because a few will be able to
put up with you only until you are up to their levels.
So once we understand and realize the direction towards
which our actions has to be channelized, what can we do next? Start measuring
and keeping each of your step clearly, how different may your style of work
could be but remember never jump two stones, the unknown third step is never a
better option when you compare it to the known rocky next step. Go one step at
a time and as I said your style can be anything, either by the book or on your
instincts, which depends on your ability to weigh a situation. Patience is a
virtue which needs to be kindled if you have ideas of getting anywhere near
persistence.
Everything is not as it seems to be. When we search for
opportunities the first thing we need to forget in life is, ”opportunity knocks
the door only once”, but it is imperative to realize that the door always
remain ajar and it is our efforts which will take us through. For obvious
reasons I suggest you never follow the old proverb because you might give up if
in first attempt you don’t succeed. Remember if you are a person with
procrastination then persistence might never be your ally as your tomorrow will
never come, to prove it, today was you yesterday’s tomorrow. So buckle up and
it’s never too late, focus more on the process than the consequence, it’ll let
you have a grip on your goal, and hey, all
said and done it’s yours and why do
you want to give up?
- Channelize your thoughts in the right direction and never give up.
- Have the inquisitiveness to learn new things every day.
- Rekindle the patience as a necessary virtue and avoid procrastination to have persistence as your ally.
- Focus on the process and not on the consequence.
The best motivating stories of persistence can never beat my
all-time favorite. The story of the great Sri Lankan cricketer Marvan Attapatu.
I somehow feel this story will remain very close to your heart after you read
it, learn not to give up- A must read in the link -
