The Power of Promise

People in the public- eye rather need to be more conscious about making promises- as it comes with another tag along, that whatever promise is made should be kept up.
I think the men and women, boys and girls, have a responsibility to themselves and to others, and that usually means making promises and keeping up to it. The responsibility can be anything from waking up early in the morning to go for a stroll to raising a family. It all boils down to something ethereal – It’s what you owe others; it is about making a commitment and sticking to it.
Keeping up a promise is as pleasant as a petrichor and the opulence of it cannot be felt by everyone, and unlike a lucid dream it isn’t so easy unless practiced hard.
Imagine yourself as a kid, success would be to finish up the entire tiffin box which your mother keeps for lunch and we all made promises to her that “today” I’ll complete it. The kind of customary felicity which we would express once we could keep it up always pushes us to a jubilant mood. The reference to a kid was made only to ensure that everyone could understand it keenly.
Now looking at the catch here- There are two things to a promise. First is to force yourself to keep up the promise you have made to someone or to yourself. Second, it is to Think before the promise is made if at all can it met or not.
Ex- flipkart big billion day sale debacle – they promised too much than they could deliver and it did dent a lot of customer’s belief on them that they will deliver it perfectly the next time they announce some big sales- “promise less and over deliver once you’ve reached a stage”.
Breaking a promise might appear a small thing but it almost sabotages the chances of selling yourself as it dents the glint of trust that others placed on the words which left your mouth promising whatever, because promise is a cashmere draped around the words suggesting to act as a muffle and if there happens to be a hole in it what is the ultimate purpose of so much draping? The purpose is lost isn’t?
“She broke her marriage promise, Kaput”- isn’t logical to read this?
Now when this seems to be an imperative part how do we master it? IT does help a lot when you want to sell yourself, as it holds the key.
·         “Look at promise as a measure of sincerity and a contract which ceases only when it is fulfilled.
·         Thinking beforehand saves you from the embarrassment later.
·         You’re saved from the having to make apologies or excuses.
·         People will know that you meant what you say.
·         Your sincere image will shine through”.

  1. "Commitment" and "Promise" Although they are synonyms but have different meanings altogether!!
I believe Commitment is much stronger than a promise..... A promise is something u can shell out because it is not something you make towards your goal !! you make a promise to be on time at work tomorrow but u definitely commit to be on time to work everyday... commitment is what you work for Ur long term goals and vision of life... what you have talked about in this post sounds like promises we make in everyday life and it is totally appreciated and accepted, one has to think about promises we make..
This is just to add to your thought..... :)

  3. lavi i must say thank you for sharing your thoughts on it as well, goes on to show that you have actually spent time reading it.
as you said synonyms, yet different meanings and i accept your perspective as well, but my point here is that a promise must be made only when we are sure to be committed and we must be committed to what we promise :) Thank you again for adding on, and i hope my point is clear as well :)
