Change-Evolve-Sustain
It is not so uncommon that
that these days, with the kind of exposure that everyone are being exposed to,
accepting that gravity is a great teacher never goes for a toss. People accept
to it, but do we stay grounded? That’s a huge question. We all readily accept the adage when we look
at others floating, as a matter of fact, the adage also looks greener on the other
side.
Staying grounded teaches you
to look at failures without a bias, it lets you start the introspection from
yourself, the intrinsic route before looking at the extrinsic causes. Even in
case it’s an extrinsic cause, it might probably be your error to have not handled it
properly. Ultimately, like this country, your life is also a democratic one- you
for yourself, by you, of you; but in one of my earlier blogs Emergence of life, I had
written that the purpose of life is for others and to the maximum extent
possible we need to help others. That’s true, I still stand by it, what I meant
here was about how you need to look after yourself and not wait for another
person to look after you.
The other day, in one of my
classes, my lecturer used a fantastic simile of life with swimming- we learn to
swim in the well or probably in the pond, but when we try to use that swimming
in the real world it’s in the ocean with all wild whales and piranhas swimming
along, trying to go ahead of you in which sense will even most probably never
hesitate to eat you up. That is when I thought about something called Change-
evolve –sustain! I will use the same simile of swimming and explain.
What is
that we are supposed to do while we try to swim-
Ground rule 1: NEVER GULP – it’s
all bad waters.
Ground rule 2: Keep your neck
up, and the MAIN- never go with the flow- you might never know when it would
lead to a waterfall!
Try to reach a bank and probably, you can
choose your bank and take it up from there.
This in my terms, is the
simplest connection that I could come up pertaining to what I thought was
pertaining to the CHANGE-EVOLVE-SUSTAIN, and it never goes wrong for any field
which you choose to be in!
Churn out new ideas in your
life, at certain times, the best ideas are so simple that we do not have the
guts to it- for ex, the other day I read a research result which had a hypothesis
does engineers believe the result which they get on their calculator in the
first go? And expectedly 71% answered no! And, again churning out new ideas is
not about planning ahead of time, there is no such thing as planning ahead of
time- you can only be planning in time, or probably on time. But, never ahead.
Sticking to our topic of
CHANGE-EVOLVE-SUSTAIN, this churning of new ideas is a continuous process, and
what is more important here to evolve out successful is to ensure very keenly
that you do not fall to the method of madness which is utter chaos. Methods can
be there, but ensure it doesn’t kill your spontaneity, because when you feel
like falling to the madness think of the swimming simile of going with the
flow! If you are still brave enough to take the route of waterfall and survive,
I’ll be more than happy to invite you over for dinner.
LEARNING is a continuous process,
like how we learn how to walk, how to start speaking our mother tongue, do you
remember the time you started speaking your mother tongue? That’s evolving with
time, and ultimately learning cannot be bereft of your senses and which is why I
feel falling into to the method of madness is a crime.
Now, to sustain after changing
and evolving- have the tolerance, and keep chasing the ghosts and never let it
chase you! (I meant your fears and doubts), never look for light at the end of
the tunnel- Go over it! Climb up the mountains and you will have a clear view
of what is happening rather than focusing only on your path, which is probably why
I feel it is crazy when professors ask the students to sit in the first bench…
why in their terms that students in the last bench can never listen- I hardly
understand.
NEVER compromise. There are a
lot of living examples and standing proofs for that, who have never compromised
on their values, ideas, and still could be successful and made a lot of money, look up
to them and don’t look down upon them.
Good one :) analogy well presented.
